Coltus artist residency
and Non Profit

Spring 2023
California Institute of the Arts

For my senior BFA thesis I proposed Coltus, a Houston-based research, gallery, and residency space that seeks to provide a haven for developing, sharing, and discussing artwork methodologies, myths and creative practice.

Because formal art education is increasingly cost prohibitive and inaccessible to students across Texas, Coltus hopes to be an alternative resource. Coltus strives to build local communities throughout the greater Houston area by providing access directly between professional artists and students through educational workshops. Coltus allows greater accessibility into the arts for students unable to afford private art lessons by offering professional artistic lessons in an academic setting.

The thesis developed into a comprehensive brand guideline for Coltus as well as extensive proposal planning for possible funding.

I was approached by the Graphic Design faculty to join a team of six to design and create the 2022-23 Graphic Design department end of year show website. Unmasked & Tightly Kerned. The team organized photoshoots for all students that were used to form a colorful collage of each class.

During the first three weeks of instruction in the Spring Semester, CalArts offers a variety of technical workshops for BFAs. They are designed to provide short-term, high-intensity skills training to the undergraduate population.

These are stills for a proposed title sequence for Sound of Metal. This was a project created during Manija Emran’s practicum course. The handwritten lettering in this project was inspired by the handwritting of the main character, Ruben, in his time in rehab.

This is a mock up of a possible space in the CalArts laundry room. These signs would be interchangable notes or phrases that could be left on washer/dryer if clothing was left in them too long. This project was completed in Tiffanie Tran’s practicum course.
